Como's parent company, Mace, launches The Adventurer for 25th anniversary

  • Como’s parent company Mace has officially launched a baton, named The Adventurer

As part of celebrating 25 years of a better way, Como’s parent company Mace has officially launched a baton, named The Adventurer, to visit both Mace and Como projects across the globe and to raise vital funds for Mace Foundation.

As one of three companies to have delivered the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Mace is echoing the famous torch relay where 8,000 people carried the torch 8,000 miles to symbolise the passing on of the Olympic spirit across the UK. In emulating this time-honoured tradition, over the next 12 months The Adventurer will visit 25 countries and 250 projects and will be handled by at least 2,500 people. It aims to complete its round-the-world trip having raised a target of £200,000 for Mace Foundation.

The Adventurer’s journey kicked off this week at The Shard, London, UK, where Executive Chairman Stephen Pycroft and Chief Executive Mark Reynolds were joined by two of Mace’s founding partners Ian Macpherson and Ian Wylie. Eight employees were also selected to attend from across the business for demonstrating their commitment to finding a better way in 2014.

Founding partner Ian Macpherson began proceedings by handing the baton over to the first Mace 25th champion Aaron Higginson, followed by a few words from Mark Reynolds.

Since then, The Adventurer has made its way to Nova, Victoria, an under-construction, and vibrant new destination in London, UK, where Mace is currently acting as main contractor. At Nova, Aaron met with Olympic gold medallist and super, middle-weight boxer James Degale and on this first day of its travels the baton raised an impressive £300.

We will be posting regular updates on the baton's progress via the Mace Twitter page, using #Mace25 - click here to see updates on its journey. If you would like to get some more information on the fundraising, visit our JustGiving page here.
