Como site plays host to school visitors

  • Thameside Primary visit the Primark site in Reading

The team at the Primark, Reading site recently played host to some important visitors. On the 21st of July, children from local school, Thameside Primary, visited site to find out more about the project and construction in general. The children had also provided some artwork to brighten up the site and so were able to see their hard work displayed on site. The teachers and children were given a health and safety briefing and issued with full five point PPE which provided a bit of amusement for the small visitors. After they were fully kitted out, the children went on a tour of the site and escorted to viewing areas specifically set up on each floor so they could see what construction activities were being carried out. Project manager, Simon Wells took the opportunity to thank the children for their artwork and this was followed up by refreshments and an informal discussion on construction. The school will be visiting the project again when it has been completed. The project team are completing the extensive refurbishment and fit out for repeat client, Primark in the centre of Reading. The project started on site in November last year and is due to be completed by the end of 2016. Project manager, Simon Wells said: ‘We believe engaging with the local community is really important. The children from Thameside Primary painted some fantastic boards which brightened up the welfare facilities and remind us all on site that we are contributing towards the local community. They had a great time and we really enjoyed showing them around and seeing how enthusiastic they were about the project.” Abbie Southall, Art coordinator at Thameside Primary said: ‘Thank you so much for a wonderful visit to see our art work up. The feedback from children and staff was all really positive. The children enjoyed learning about construction and about how the store is made. It made it a really exciting, positive experience for the children to see their work displayed in such an effective way. One child commented 'It was so much fun to go to the store and see it under construction!' Another child said 'I loved talking to the builders and wearing a hard hat!' We would love to come back when the store is completed.”
