Como bags TV shopping channel commission

Como, Mace’s specialist fit-out company has been appointed on an £18 million project by shopping channel QVC UK. Work is underway at Chiswick Park on the recently completed shell and core building, ready to be transformed into a full Cat B fit-out with completion programmed for December. Other broadcasters already based at Chiswick Park are, Discovery, Paramount and CBS.

QVC UK is the leading television shopping channel and is looking to upgrade its facilities to allow filming in HD, and to accommodate a workforce of over 600 people. Secured under a fixed price contract, the Como team undertook extensive value engineering exercises to meet the client’s budget.

The scope of this project includes: installing AV mounts on all the roof chiller units to prevent any building vibration during filming, installing AV mounts on all internal M&E equipment in the studios, editing voice over booths to achieve a 67db requirement, designing presenter changing rooms, make-up rooms to deal with the high quality HD filming, installing infinity walls to the broadcasting studio and designing employee canteen seating 120.

Como project manager, Bob Cooper commented: “We’re delighted to be building on our broadcasting fit-out experience and our relationships with the professional team on this fantastic project for QVC. It’ll be a great opportunity to expand our fit-out knowledge with a prime time broadcasting company and see first-hand what technical requirements are needed to broadcast in full HD. With the client also aiming for a BREEAM excellent rating, we’ll be implementing a waste segregation strategy, which will result in six separate waste streams being disposed of in line with the company’s environment policy”

To date, Mace has completed media sector projects for the Associated Press and Chinese Central Television. Large broadcasting elements were also installed on projects for Linklaters, Nomura and BlackRock.
