Como and Mace complete state of the art fit out of British Land’s head office

Como and Mace have successfully completed the refit British Land's head office at York House. The fit out was awarded an excellent BREEAM rating for sustainability, the highest recognition possible.

The visionary refurbishment, designed by MoreySmith, comprised the fitting out of new reception and meeting rooms, along with two existing floors of offices, the introduction of facility welfare points and break out areas, and the construction of a new central staircase.

Now complete, the new office is designed to boost staff motivation and interaction.

To meet the highest standards of sustainability Mace and Como:

• installed energy efficient light bulbs and other electrical appliances
• fitted water efficient taps
• used wood only from guaranteed sustainable sources certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)
• used recycled materials for ceiling tiles, flooring and timber, with the fourth floor coffee island and booth seats made from reclaimed jarrah timber.

In addition, no waste from the refurbishment went to landfill, with more than 900 items of office furniture reused and recycled. Materials were also sourced from around the UK for desks, chairs, carpets, leather, stone and steel, to support British businesses and jobs.

Further to the project teams focus on sustainability, Mace partnered with British Land and the local community to help local apprentices earn while they learn, while the Mace project team volunteered their skills to repair the Flamboyan Community Association's workshop in Maida Vale, a local community project.

Mace and Como also performed strongly on the Considerate Constructors Scheme, scoring 8/10 or better in every category.

David Flannery, Project Manager, Como "The Mace and Como teams are delighted to have played a key role in bringing British Land's visionary project to life. By working in partnership with British Land we are proud to have delivered a state of the art refurbishment, which not only meets the highest sustainability criteria, while supporting the local community."
